About

A bit about Dr. Shukla.

Dr. Pratik Shukla is board certified in interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology. Interventional radiology works through a needle or a catheter under live imaging rather than an open incision, which is why most of what he does is an outpatient procedure with a shorter recovery than the operation it replaces — embolization for knee and joint pain, treatment for peripheral artery disease, vein and venous work, and vascular access.

He has been on faculty at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School since 2018, where he is an Associate Professor of Radiology, Director of Quality Assurance for the department, and director of the Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) pathway for the radiology residency. At University Hospital in Newark he is Medical Director of the Vascular Access Team; before that he was Medical Director of Radiology at East Orange General Hospital.

His training is all Mount Sinai and Rutgers: interventional radiology chief clinical fellow at Mount Sinai Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine, a diagnostic radiology residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, and a transitional year at St. Luke's University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He earned his MD at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and two bachelor's degrees — cellular biology and neuroscience, and honors psychology — at Rutgers, where he was a Henry Rutgers Research Scholar.

He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and five book chapters, and is site principal investigator on trials of genicular artery embolization for knee osteoarthritis and of mechanical aspiration for pulmonary embolism. Four graduating classes at NJMS have nominated him for the Golden Apple teaching award. He is a founding member of the New Jersey Interventional Radiology Society and a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology, the American College of Radiology, and the New York Roentgen Society.
